Before you build the Tools ...

Before you start thinking about reproducing this experiment on your printer, you need to ensure that your 3d printer can meet the following points:

  1. It must be possible to fix the “MultiTool holder” on your 3D printer Head.

  2. The mounted tools must be using a lower X position , lower Y position and lower Z position   than the 3D extruder.

  3. The fixation of the tool and mounted tools must not block the “AutoHome” feature of your printer.

  4. The printer needs to support standard Gcode files.

The below chapters will explain in detail how to verify each of thiese points :

Fixing the Multitool Holder.

Identify where the multitool Holder needs to be positioned

You first need to understand the X and Y axis directions of your printer :

Launch the autohome feature. The head is at position X=0,Y=0

When you manually increase X on your printer, is your head going to the right or to the left ? ( usually, should go right)

Manually increase Y on your printer to understand where the head moves when you increase Y.

To help, you, you could draxw the X and Y axis on your bed,  with a temporary marker.

When you understand what are the directions for X and Y axis, then you can identify in which quarter the tool holder needs to be installed :

The Multi tool Holder must be in a position where it has a lower X position than the Filament Extruder X Position

The Multi tool Holder must be in a position where it has a lower Y position than the Filament Extruder Y Position

Note: this is the only configuration i have tested.

  1. Verify that the multitool can be fixed without impacting the Auto Home Feature.

Another point to verify is that the AutoHome feature can work with the Multitool Installed and with a tool installed on the multitool :

The multitool holder must not impact the printing feature when there is no tool mounted:

In the Auto Home position, the tool can be mounted easily and the tool Head must have a lower Z than the Filament Extruder.

In order to fix the multitool in that position, you can use the following tips :

  1. If you are using an emotion Tech prusa rework 1.5 printer, then you can use the associated support, .

  2. If your printer is using a Nema17 motor to manage the extruder, then you may be able to use the generic mutitool fixation . to fix the multitool Holdler on your Nema 17 motor

  3. If you have a different printer, you will need to find a solution and design a holdler that will allow you to fix the multitool holdler.

In all cases, be sure to verify that the auto home feature is not impacted and that the tool position is at a lower X and Y than the extruder.
